How to Use the Counterpoint Checker
- Choose First Species or Second Species.
- Choose which MusicXML part contains the cantus firmus.
- Upload a MusicXML file containing two parts.
- The other part will be treated as the counterpoint.
- For second species, an opening half rest is allowed.
- A final unison or octave is allowed.
- Click Check Counterpoint.
The checker looks for dissonances, parallel perfect consonances,
voice crossings, tritone leaps, and other common rule violations.
